2021 Artist Award Winners

The following artists will be invited automatically to the 2022 Evergreen Fine Arts Show.

 Our Jurors considered the following attributes when evaluating our artists:

  • Design and Compostion

  • Technique and skill in construction

  • Presentation

  • Creativity and Originality

  • Ability to converse and the level of enthusiasm

Best in Show

Don Mcwhorter, Clay, #83

Judges Comments:  Don’s artistic voice is exceptionally expressed and a superior degree of originality is exhibited throughout. He is engaging and able to express ideas fluently. There is an above average degree of originality in his work.

2D (Painting, Drawing, Mixed 2D)

Steve Hunsicker, Painting – Acrylic & Oil, #14

Judges Comments:  Outstanding design, composition, and technique expressing the subject matter in an interesting and new way. Many of the works show technique that evokes movement and fluidity.

3D (Metal, Sculpture, Mixed Media 3D)

Wayne Gao, Mixed Media 3D, #77

Judges Comments:  Visually interesting, excellent color sense. Follows all elements of artistic principles.

Clay/Wood/Glass

Michael Thiele, Wood - Decorative, #44

Judges Comments:  The artwork presents a high level of skill. Michael excels in explaining his materials to his customers. He exhibits a complete understanding of how the wood creates the sound produced in each instrument.

Fiber/Functional/Leather

Barbara Holloway, Fiber and Textiles, #32

Judges Comments:  Barbara has demonstrated a high level of skill and ability in the use of her selected techniques and materials.

Jewelry

Julie Glassman, Jewelry, #42

Judges Comments:  Exploration of materials, techniques, and themes reflect Julie’s voice to its core. Her craftsmanship is masterful.

Photography (Photography, Digital Art)

Jason Pavalonis, Traditional Film and Digital, #2,3

Judges Comments:  Jason’s artwork reveals an original approach to process, concept, and subject matter. It transcends the parameters of “that’s photography”. Jason has mastered his medium.

Juror’s Recognition Award

Marvin Blackmore, Clay, #59

Judges Comments:  Marvin’s artwork is exceptional, finished with care and attention to detail. Superior originality exhibited throughout. He is generally interested and enthusiastic about his work and process. Marvin’s communication skills are outstanding.
